Nerds and Male Privilege (definitely worth a read!)

I want to tell you a story.

A few years ago, I was dating a girl who was decidedly not nerd curious. She tolerated my geeky interests with a certain bemused air but definitely didn’t participate in ‘em… not even…

A-fucking-men. As a female nerd whi works in a comic shop, I can’t tell you how many times I come home pissed off that customers ask any male in the same question they’ve asked me to get the “correct” information, or just skipped asking me altogether. Even today, I came home and actually cried because I heard some of the sexualized comments some customers made at me when they thought I couldn’t hear them. I truely appreciate my regular customers who come in and make me feel like a normal human being.
